About
Climate change is the major challenge of our times. Irregular and unexpected severe weather events have become the new normal. The impacts are profound and the challenges are multifaceted. Since the Paris Agreement, the action plan of achieving net zero carbon emissions has become a joint effort by global governments and multinational companies. Meanwhile, the WMO emphasizes the public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the form of climate services.
At the 2019 Asia Pacific Climate Service Workshop (APCSW) hosted by the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) in Taiwan, speakers and professionals from meteorological administrations, disaster prevention agencies, private sectors and academia of countries in the Asia-Pacific region gathered to discuss trends and challenges in climate services and to share experiences and stories of their own. The workshop concluded that, with constant information sharing and co-development, leveraging local partnerships, encouraging private sector involvement, and embracing information technology would be crucial to developing climate service further.
The CWB is committed to support this valuable platform so its international partners who work towards the same goal can meet again to learn from each other, realign efforts, and create possibilities. In 2021, the APCSW will launch again under the theme “Climate Service for Resilience and Sustainable Development Toward A Net Zero Emission World”. APCSW is co-hosted by the APEC Climate Center (APCC), Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER), and International Climate Development Institute (ICDI). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the workshop will be held in the form of online conference.
